MyPhraser - the new language learning program

MyPhraser is a new method to learn languages effectively and playfully.

The basic principle: playful learning

 MyPhraser is not a classical language learning programme. It is an exercise programme with which you can playfully expand your active vocabulary. You have to find the translations yourself, but the programme can help you if necessary.

MyPhraser offers a whole range of games. These are divided into seven groups:

- the main game in several variants

- simple games with sentences - bilingual

- games with groups of words and sentences - bilingual

- simple word games - bilingual

- challenging word games - bilingual

- games with sentences - multilingual

- creative games - bilingual

So that you can gradually familiarise yourself with the different games, not all games are activated immediately. In each group the first game is unlocked, in the first group the two main games ‘Say the sentence’ and ‘Fill the sentence’.

The other games are only accessible to registered users. These will be unlocked as soon as you have played the previous game in the respective group once.

You learn in several ways:

In the main game "Fill in the sentence" you have to find the translation into the target language yourself, but you are supported by the programme if necessary. This principle also applies to the games "Questions and Answers" and "Quiz", where you learn interesting facts at the same time.

For "lazy" players, there is the "Say the sentence" variant. Here you only have to say the target sentence correctly and can reveal letters as required.

In the other games with sentences, you only have to put the words and letters in the right order. In the memory game, you have to match words or groups of words in the target language with the corresponding words in the source language.

In the word games, you have to find individual words in different ways. When you solve them, they are displayed in the context of the sentence.

The multilingual games allow you to learn several languages at the same time, two, three, four, five or six foreign languages. 

You can play the creative games alone or with friends. Here you have to form words from your active vocabulary or sentences with certain components. The supreme discipline is the game "Answer questions". Here you can use the knowledge you have acquired. If you have problems finding words, you can get help from an external translation programme.

Almost all of the games have been newly developed for myPhraser. Some are well-known games that have been specially adapted for myPhraser (Hangman, Mastermind, Wördl).

For registered users:

As a registered user, you can also learn by entering sentences yourself. You can have a translation programme (e.g. Google Translater or Deepl) translate your own sentences into your learning language. The translations are not always perfect, but they are very good in most cases. When you release your sentences, they are checked again by an admin before they are released to all users and corrected if necessary.

If you then also define the assignments of words and word groups, you will learn even more intensively. 

You can also make missing translations of other users' sentences. The translations are then yours.

Test your knowledge level in test mode

The basic idea for myPhraser was the game "Fill in the sentence". The other games were added gradually. This main game is also used in test mode, where you can test your level of knowledge in the respective language and reach the corresponding levels.

There is less help in test mode than in learn mode. You can also test your quick vocabulary in the timer version, because it's not only about correct input, but also how quickly you find the solution.

A sophisticated point system makes your performance measurable and comparable with other users.

A special service for registered users:

The programme remembers the words you have entered 100% correctly and collects them in your active vocabulary. In this way, you can build up your own vocabulary, but also specifically repeat words that you have not yet entered correctly.

I'm learning exactly what I want!

The sentences are chosen randomly, but you can narrow them down by categories, sentence types, difficulty levels and much more, so that you learn exactly what you need or what interests you.

I learn several languages at the same time!

I used to think that you should concentrate on one foreign language. But that turned out to be less effective. For example, if you first learn 6 years of Spanish and then 6 years of Portuguese, 12 years have passed just for these two languages! The languages have so many similarities that it makes sense to learn both languages at the same time and get to know the differences.

But Italian and French are also quite similar because of their Latin origin. It's the same with German and Dutch because of their common Germanic origin. And English is in between, it has something of both original languages. 

In addition, German and Dutch have many foreign words of latin origin. It is therefore worth learning two or more myPhraser languages at the same time.

If you have a reasonable command of all myPhraser languages, you can communicate very well in Western Europe and in many parts of the world.

In your user profile, you can prioritise the languages or deselect them if they don't interest you. 

What is the target group of MyPhraser?

There are many good textbooks and programmes for learning a language from scratch. However, there are hardly any learning programmes for advanced learners who want to expand and maintain their vocabulary. For this group, the normal learning programmes are often too rigid and not challenging enough. Even people with good language skills want to continually expand their knowledge. A language offers so many facets that it is impossible to be perfect in any language.

This is the gap myPhraser wants to close, because learners can even determine what they want to learn by recording their own lessons. And many others benefit from this.

But beginners can also check and expand their knowledge here, which is what the different levels are for. So that a beginner is not "groping in the dark", there are the assignments with which he can understand which word in the source language corresponds to a word in the target language.

Experts can use levels 7 to 9 to move within their field of expertise and expand their linguistic knowledge as well as their general knowledge by practising with the existing sentences or entering new sentences.

Does MyFraser cost anything?

MyPhraser is still in the testing and development phase. Therefore, the use of MyPhraser is free of charge for registered users until further notice. Only when the number of users has grown so much that the administration and processing effort becomes too great, will we have to charge a user fee. Therefore, you should register now, because the programme remains free for the first users!

Do I have to register?

You can use myPhraser without registering in the community, but with your registration you have many more possibilities!
